Specimen Required Defines the optimal specimen. This field describes the type of specimen required to perform the test and the preferred volume to complete testing. The volume allows automated processing, fastest throughput and, when indicated, repeat or reflex testing.

Patient should not be on aspirin, indomethacin, or anti-inflammatory medications, if possible, for at least 48 hours prior to collection of specimen.

 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Serum:

Draw blood in a plain red-top tube(s). (Serum gel tube is acceptable.) Spin down and send 3 mL serum frozen in a plastic vial.

 

Plasma:

Draw blood in a (lavender-top) EDTA tube(s). (Plasma gel tube is acceptabl.) Spin down and send 3 mL plasma frozen in a plastic vial.

Specimen Minimum Volume The amount of sample necessary to provide a clinically relevant result as determined by the Laboratory.
