Specimen Type Describes the specimen type needed for testing

Plasma Na Cit

Specimen Required Defines the optimal specimen. This field describes the type of specimen required to perform the test and the preferred volume to complete testing. The volume allows automated processing, fastest throughput and, when indicated, repeat or reflex testing.

Collect blood in 3.2% sodium citrate light blue top tube. Centrifuge within 30 minutes after collection, freeze immediately. Send 2 mL platelet-poor plasma in plastic vial frozen.

1. Prohibit exercise prior to drawing sample.

2. To avoid release of plasminogen activator, do not massage vein vigorously, pump fist excessively or leave tourniquet in place for a prolonged period.

Specimen Minimum Volume The amount of sample necessary to provide a clinically relevant result as determined by the Laboratory.

1 mL

Reject Due To Identifies specimen types and conditions that may cause the specimen to be rejected

Warm reject; Cold reject
