Necessary Information

Patient's age and sex are required.

Specimen Required Defines the optimal specimen. This field describes the type of specimen required to perform the test and the preferred volume to complete testing. The volume allows automated processing, fastest throughput and, when indicated, repeat or reflex testing.

Container/Tube:

Preferred: Serum gel

Acceptable: Red top

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Fasting (12 hours)

2. Draw blood before 12 noon (preferred).

3. Serum gel tubes should be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection.

4. Red-top tubes should be centrifuged and aliquoted within 2 hours of collection.

Additional Information: Iron-containing supplements should be avoided for 24 hours prior to draw.
