Test Setup Information

Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC®) is clinical terminology that is important for laboratory test orders and results, and is one of a suite of designated standards for use in U.S. Federal Government systems for the electronic exchange of clinical health information.

In 1999, LOINC was identified by the HL7 Standards Development Organization as a preferred code set for laboratory test names in transactions between health care facilities, laboratories, laboratory testing devices and public health authorities. In the future, LOINC is likely to become a HIPAA standard for certain segments of the Claims Attachment transaction.

Mayo Medical Laboratories systematically assigns LOINC values to its assays, as provided in the following spreadsheet. See Terms of Use and Legal Restrictions for conditions. Some displayed values might be prerelease values assigned by the Regenstrief Institute, and they can be verified by users at the LOINC website (loinc.org/prerelease). LOINC values for send-out laboratory tests are provided by the external reference testing laboratory.
