Test ID: FMPD
Mycoplasma pneumoniae DNA, Qualitative Real-Time PCR
Specimen Type
Describes the specimen type needed for testing
Varies
Specimen Required
Defines the optimal specimen. This field describes the type of specimen required to perform the test and the preferred volume to complete testing. The volume allows automated processing, fastest throughput and, when indicated, repeat or reflex testing.
Submit only 1 of the following:
CSF
Collect 1 mL in a sterile container and ship refrigerated.
Pleural Fluid
Collect 1 mL in a sterile container and ship refrigerated.
Pericardial Fluid
Collect 1 mL in a sterile container and ship refrigerated.
Throat or Nasopharyngeal
Collect 3 mL in sterile M4 media or V-C-M medium (green-cap) tube or equivalent (UTM)
Note: Source is required
Specimen Minimum Volume
Defines the amount of specimen required to perform an assay once, including instrument and container dead space. Submitting the minimum specimen volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory or perform reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum specimen volume may result in a QNS (quantity not sufficient) result, requiring a second specimen to be collected.
0.35 mL
Reject Due To
Identifies specimen types and conditions that may cause the specimen to be rejected
| Specimens other than | Bronchial wash/lavage, sputum, CSF, Pleural Fluid, Pericardial Fluid, throat swab, nasopharyngeal swab |
| Anticoagulants other than | NA |
| Hemolysis | NA |
| Thawing | Cold OK; Warm 48 hrs |
| Lipemia | NA |
| Icteric | NA |
Specimen Stability Information
Provides a description of the temperatures required to transport a specimen to the laboratory. Alternate acceptable temperature(s) are also included.
| Specimen Type | Temperature | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Varies | Refrigerated (preferred) | 14 days |
| Frozen | 30 days | |
| Ambient | 48 hours |
