Test ID: QHCV
Hepatitis C Virus RNA Quantification by bDNA, Serum

Specimen Type Describes the specimen type needed for testing

Serum SST

Specimen Required Defines the optimal specimen. This field describes the type of specimen required to perform the test and the preferred volume to complete testing. The volume allows automated processing, fastest throughput and, when indicated, repeat or reflex testing.

Collection Container/Tube: Serum gel

Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Spin down and remove serum from gel within 6 hours of draw.

2. Freeze specimen immediately, and ship frozen on dry ice.

3. If shipment will be delayed for >24 hours, freeze specimen at -70 degrees C (up to 35 days) until shipment on dry ice.

Additional Information: This test is intended to be used to monitor known hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA-positive infections. It is not intended for initial detection of HCV RNA.

Specimen Minimum Volume Defines the amount of specimen required to perform an assay once, including instrument and container dead space. Submitting the minimum specimen volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory or perform reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum specimen volume may result in a QNS (quantity not sufficient) result, requiring a second specimen to be collected.
