Test ID: FMSI1
Maternal Serum Screening, Integrated, Specimen #1

Specimen Type Describes the specimen type needed for testing

Serum

Specimen Required Defines the optimal specimen. This field describes the type of specimen required to perform the test and the preferred volume to complete testing. The volume allows automated processing, fastest throughput and, when indicated, repeat or reflex testing.

Specimen #1 collection must occur between 10 weeks, 3 days and 13 weeks, 6 days of pregnancy (crown-rump length (CRL) must measure between 3.2 and 8.5 cm).

Draw blood in a plain red-top tube(s), serum gel tube is acceptable. Spin down and send 0.5 mL serum refrigerated in a plastic vial.

Separate from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection.

Note:

1.     Required: Completed Maternal Serum Screen, Integrated Test Request Form.

Specimen Minimum Volume Defines the amount of specimen required to perform an assay once, including instrument and container dead space. Submitting the minimum specimen volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory or perform reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum specimen volume may result in a QNS (quantity not sufficient) result, requiring a second specimen to be collected.
