Method Description
The ESR is performed using the Westergren method. The test
measures the rate of sedimentation of erythrocytes in a 1:5 dilution
of 3.8% sodium citrate solution to whole blood. The blood is drawn
up in a column and allowed to sit undisturbed for 1 hour. The
sedimentation is read as millimeters (mm), recording the distance
from the top of the column to the meniscus of the erythrocyte
