Galactokinase is determined by using red blood cells (as is
GPUT). Radiolabeled galactose is incubated in the appropriate
buffer with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and red cell lysate.
Galactose-1-phosphate (the product of the action of galactokinase
on galactose and ATP) is quantitated after it is bound to ion-exchange
