Chemically inactivated suspensions from nonmotile strains of
Proteus mirabilis OXK are used in the slide and tube agglutinin
procedures to detect antibodies (agglutinins) for scrub typhus.
The rapid slide procedure is a screening test designed to detect
agglutinins whereas the tube test is a presumptive test procedure
designed to quantitate agglutinin present. A positive result in the
screening (slide) test is confirmed by a quantitative tube test.
