Method Description

The method is based on the reaction of magnesium with xylidyl

blue in alkaline solution containing ethyleneglycotetraacetic acid

(EGTA) to mask the calcium in the sample. Magnesium forms a

purple complex with xylidyl blue. The magnesium concentration is

measured photometrically via the decrease in the xylidyl blue
