The CBC is used as a screening tool to confirm a hematologic disorder,
to establish or rule out a diagnosis, to detect an unsuspected
hematologic disorder, or to monitor effects of radiation or chemotherapy.

Testing Algorithm

For Mayo patients:
A morphology evaluation is performed when the automated 5-part differential is invalid and/or when abnormal results are identified upon microscopic examination.
For Mayo Medical Laboratories patients:
An approval will be requested before the morphologic evaluation is ordered due to the additional charge.
For Mayo patients only:
A consultant evaluation is performed on clinically significant abnormal results identified upon microscopic examination at an additional charge.
