May be used as an aid for detection of recent herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. The preferred testing method for diagnosis of active HSV infection is PCR of a dermal swab of a suspicious lesion.


This assay does not distinguish between HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgM antibodies due to a high level of cross-reactivity.
