Aiding in the diagnosis of infection with herpes simplex virus
May be used as an aid for detection of recent herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. The preferred testing method for diagnosis of active HSV infection is PCR of a dermal swab of a suspicious lesion.
This assay does not distinguish between HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgM antibodies due to a high level of cross-reactivity.
|Test ID||Reporting Name||Available Separately||Always Performed|
|HSMR||HSV Ab, IgM, S by IFA||No||No|
If herpes simplex virus (HSV) antibody screen, IgM by EIA is reactive, then HSV antibody, IgM by immunofluorescence assay will be performed at an additional charge.
MHSV: Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
HSMR: Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)
