Testing Algorithm Delineates situation(s) when tests are added to the initial order. This includes reflex and additional tests.

This test is designed to hold the sample but delay FISH testing while preliminary morphologic assessment or flow cytometry testing is in process. When ordering this test, a FISH test must be indicated when prompted. Based on the morphologic assessment, the FISH test originally indicated may be changed. If a different test or specific probes are needed, the client can call the laboratory and modify the requested probes (see cancellation policy below).

Upon sample receipt, the specimen will be processed and held in the laboratory. FISH analysis will be performed unless the test is canceled (see cancellation policy). Note: Due to differences in specimen processing, this test does not apply to the Plasma Cell Proliferative Disorder (PCPD), FISH (FPCPD) assay.

If the client notifies the laboratory that FISH analysis is not necessary, the Heme FISH Hold test will be reported as "canceled." FISH analysis will not be performed but a processing fee will be charged.

If the client does not notify the laboratory (see cancellation policy below), the Heme FISH Hold test will be reported as "reflexed" and the FISH assay initially ordered will be performed. No processing fee will be assessed as these charges are included with each FISH assay.

Cancellation policy: The test may be canceled by 4 p.m. (Central time), 2 business days after the specimen was collected. The client must notify Mayo Medical Laboratories at 800-533-1710 within this time period to cancel FISH testing. If no cancellation is received by this time, FISH testing will be performed and charged. Weekend communication can be deferred until Monday.
