MMLSA - Overview: Antimicrobial Susceptibility, Anaerobic Bacteria, MIC

Test Catalog

Test Name

Test ID: MMLSA
Antimicrobial Susceptibility, Anaerobic Bacteria, MIC

Useful For Suggests clinical disorders or settings where the test may be helpful

Determining the in vitro susceptibility of anaerobic bacteria involved in human infections

Reflex Tests Lists test(s) that may or may not be performed, at an additional charge, depending on the result and interpretation of the initial test(s)

Additional Tests Lists test(s) that are always performed, at an additional charge, with the initial test(s)

Testing Algorithm Delineates situation(s) when tests are added to the initial order. This includes reflex and additional tests.

When this test is ordered the reflex tests may be performed and charged separately. All bacterial organisms submitted will automatically have susceptibility testing performed and billed as appropriate. Antimicrobial agents appropriate to the organism and specimen source will be tested.

See Anaerobic Bacteria Antimicrobials in Special Instructions to review the table which provides a listing of the antimicrobials routinely tested in our laboratory as well as antimicrobials that may be tested upon request. Contact Mayo Medical Laboratories at 800-533-1710 and ask to speak to the Bacteriology Anaerobe Laboratory if the organism or antimicrobial of interest is not listed in this table.

Anaerobe Suscep Battery will routinely be tested and billed. If fewer than 3 antibiotics will be reported, then Anaerobe Suscep Battery will be canceled and Anaerobe Suscep per agent will be charged per antibiotic. Based on susceptibility criteria, Beta Lactamase and/or Anaerobe Suscep per agent may be performed at an additional charge.
