An interpretation will be provided by Mayo staff neuromuscular pathologists within a formal pathology report.


This test should be used when submitting frozen muscle tissue for Mayo neuromuscular pathology consultation/interpretation.

Appropriate additional stains may be performed and will be charged separately.


If requesting a pathology consultation on slides only (ie, no frozen tissue being sent to be processed), order IMAX / Interpretation of Outside Muscle Biopsy Slide instead.


Note: Testing requested by the referring physician (immunostains, etc) may not be performed if deemed unnecessary by the reviewing Mayo neuromuscular pathologist. For all consultations, extra histochemical and immunocytochemical stains can be ordered at the discretion of the Mayo neuromuscular pathologist. Note that, electron microscopic studies are not performed on muscle biopsy specimens.
