Test ID: FA1AG
Alpha-1 Acid Glycoprotein, NEPH

Reference Values Describes reference intervals and additional information for interpretation of test results. May include intervals based on age and sex when appropriate. Intervals are Mayo-derived, unless otherwise designated. If an interpretive report is provided, the reference value field will state this.

Reference Range:  36-126 mg/dL

Interpretive Criteria:

< 36 mg/dL  Decreased level

36-126 mg/dL  Normal level

> 126  Increased level

Decreased serum levels of alpha-1-acid glycoprotein may be found

in association with malnutrition, severe liver damage, and in women

using estrogen-related oral contraceptives. Increased serum levels

have been reported in conditions of acute and chronic inflammation,

including myocardial infarction, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus

erythematosus, and malignancy.  Except for a difference in sialic acid

content, alpha-1-acid glycoprotein is identical to immunosuppressive

acidic protein (IAP).
