Yersina enterocolitica is an enteropathogen associated with
a wide spectrum of clinical and immunologic manifestations.
Agglutination titers are measured against whole cell
antigens of Y. enterocolitica and Y. pseudotuberculosis.
Titers typically rise one week after the onset of symptoms
and reach a peak in the second week of illness. Titers of
> or = 1:160 strongly suggest infection. Titers of <1:20
are negative, where as titers of 1:20 - 1:80 may deserve
further evaluation. The multiple strains tested represent
the serotypes most commonly identified as the cause of
sporadic infections.
