Clostridium difficile Culture
Reference Values Describes reference intervals and additional information for interpretation of test results. May include intervals based on age and sex when appropriate. Intervals are Mayo-derived, unless otherwise designated. If an interpretive report is provided, the reference value field will state this.
The isolation of C. difficile from stool specimens provides a high degree of sensitivity (97%) for the diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis and antibiotic-associated disease. However, a positive culture may be non-specific finding (carrier or colonization) or the isolate may be a non-toxigenic strain.
