Anaplasma phagocytophilum is the tick-borne agent causing Human

Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE). HGE is distinct and separate from

Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME), caused by Ehrlichia

chaffeensis. Serologic crossreactivity between A. phagocytophilum

and E. chaffeensis is minimal (5-15%).
