Clinical Update in Thrombosis and Anticoagulation

October 4-5, 2007
Heritage Hall, Kahler Grand Hotel
Rochester, Minnesota

Presented by Mayo Medical Laboratories
in cooperation with Mayo Continuing Nursing Education

An estimated 37 million patients are affected by thrombotic disorders each year. This number will continue to rise with the increase in our aging population. Clinical Update in Thrombosis and Anticoagulation will focus on clinically applicable and cutting-edge methods used in the evaluation of patients with arterial and venous thrombotic disorders. This 2-day conference will include information on advances in the evaluation and management of common thrombotic disorders as well as specific aspects of uncommon thrombotic diseases. Lectures and case studies will be presented by Mayo Clinic faculty, and ample opportunity will be provided to ask questions and discuss difficult diagnostic or management issues.

Conference Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the optimal strategy to diagnose venous thromboembolism
  • Recognize common management issues that occur when treating patients who have venous thromboembolism
  • Employ a practical approach to evaluation and management of patients who have a transient ischemic attack or stroke
  • Describe bridging therapy, using low molecular weight heparin, in patients on chronic warfarin therapy requiring procedures
  • Organize a practical approach to evaluation and management of acute coronary syndromes
  • Identify a diagnostic and management plan for patients with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
