International Surgical Pathology Symposium
Description
The 14th International Surgical Pathology Symposium addresses unique challenges and problems encountered in today’s practice. Participants will simultaneously review case histories, examine images by virtual microscopy, and formulate diagnoses. The unique subtleties and differentiating characteristics of each diagnosis will then be highlighted. Participants will also discuss the patient management strategy used in each case.
During the four-day conference, 38 cases will be presented and discussed. Three to four specialty areas will be featured each day. Cases will be presented in endocrine, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, molecular, and soft tissue pathology. Other topics include cytopathology, dermatopathology, hematopathology, and hepatopathology.
Conference Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the conference, participants should be able to:
- Describe the clinical, morphologic, and immunophenotypic characteristics of selected hematolymphoid disorders and understand the pitfalls in differential diagnoses from other benign and malignant processes
- Differentiate high-risk endometrial tumors
- Identify and become aware of problem areas in the frozen section evaluation of gynecologic tumors
- Differentiate primary ovarian tumors from potential metastatic processes
- Describe the evaluation of liver masses using histology and immunohistochemistry
- Examine the morphology and pathogenesis of serrated lesions of the colon
- Describe the process of grading and staging steatohepatitis, and evaluate its possible causes
- Describe the morphologic features, with an emphasis on differential diagnosis, in conjunction with clinical characteristics of selected gynecologic and cytologic disorders
- Use molecular techniques to provide diagnostic and prognostic information for malignancies
- Identify common diagnostic problems of pathologies selected for study
- Interpret appropriate ancillary tests for study cases
- Classify each case according to pathology type
- Enumerate the treatment options of each case diagnosis
- Integrate diagnostic, clinical, and pathological challenges in pathologist/clinician communication methods
