Integration Through Community Laboratory Insourcing

Printer-Friendly Version

October 1-3, 2008
Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel
Chicago, Illinois

Description

Critical patient care decisions frequently require immediate access to important laboratory results. A community-based laboratory can provide continuity across the continuum of care benefiting patients, physicians and the health system. This concept, defined as laboratory outreach, presents the following advantages: increased hospital revenue, lower fixed cost per test, reduced excess lab capacity, faster turnaround times and lower overall costs per episode of care.

The development, implementation and growth of a successful laboratory outreach program is a critical component of health system integration. This course will present a practical approach to all aspects of developing and growing a successful laboratory outreach program. Experienced faculty will share their knowledge on how a laboratory can reach its maximum potential.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Analyze the strategic nature of laboratory outreach
  • Evaluate the legal and regulatory concerns affecting laboratory outreach
  • Compare critical operational issues and solutions
  • Illustrate the process and management of promoting and presenting their services
  • Recognize the role of the pathologist in a laboratory outreach program
