Does Mayo require clients to tape the labels on specimen containers?

It is not required, but Mayo strongly recommends that clients place a single piece of tape over the labels on frozen specimens to prevent the labels from coming off in transit. Labels that come off in transit cause delayed turnaround time and a re-collection of specimens because the specimen is no longer labeled for identification. When taping the label to the specimen container, do not cover the bar code and be sure to use only a single piece of tap per tube/label.
