In interpreting VWD laboratory test results, it is important to be aware of the patient and sample conditions outlined above, and the potential for spurious results or results that do not reflect the patient’s baseline status (slides 20 to 22). Repeating VWD testing, if indicated, should preferably be performed with careful attention to blood sample collection and processing, and preferably in the absence of patient conditions that can elevate VWF (and factor VIII) above baseline values, as well as avoiding lipemia (eg, fasting blood specimens).
