Test Algorithms

Algorithms provide guidance to appropriate ordering and use of laboratory tests. These algorithms are examples of diagnostic approaches recommended by physicians and laboratory experts at Mayo Clinic. The use of algorithms may reduce unnecessary testing and accelerate the diagnostic process.

Mayo Medical Laboratories algorithms are designed to assist in the investigation and monitoring of disease in the most logical, cost-effective approach. The information in these algorithms is based on Mayo test validation information and may not apply to similar tests developed or performed elsewhere. These algorithms are intended to be used in conjunction with clinical judgment, based on the clinical presentation of the patient.
